AESQ Spotlights the Process Control Methods (RM13006) SMIG

What is a SMIG you might ask?  A SMIG is a Subject Matter Interest Group, and it's purpose is to promote the effective deployment of the Quality Subject across the AESQ Supply Chain. AESQ has 13 Subject Matter Interest Groups which are made up of subject matter experts from AESQ Member Companies. SMIG activities may include webinars, best practice sharing, associated AS13100 content, reference manuals, development of shared training materials, and Communities of Practice on LinkedIn.

The AESQ Process Control Methods (RM13006) Subject Matter Interest Group (SMIG) is led by Pete Tete, Pratt & Whitney. The purpose of the Process Control Methods SMIG is to promote the effective deployment of the SAE AS13100 Supplemental Quality Management Systems Requirements Standard and Reference Manual RM13006 Process Control Methods throughout the supply chain.

The Process Control Methods SMIG offers several new webinars in 2024 including:

  • The 3 C's of SPC - Control, Capability and Centering - March 26
  • Implementing IX-MR and Target-to-Nominal Charts for small production runs - May 14
  • How to choose which Control Method I need? - June 18
  • Use of Multi-Variate Charts - September 17

AESQ 2024 Supplier Forums

AESQ is planning three new Supplier Forums with a revised format in 2024.  The new 2-day format will begin with the June Supplier Forum in Trollhätten.   The three opportunities to participate are scheduled as follows:

  • April 25 - Tokyo, Japan
  • June 12-13 - Trollhatten, Sweden
  • October 16-17 -  U.S. West Coast

AS13100 Training Available

Multiple training options are  available to learn how AS13100 minimizes requirements and imporves overall product quality by focusing on the key quality systems and processes:

The 3-Day Quality Foundations Training is designed to bring together key quality systems, processes, and methodologies to show how they work as part of a system to focus on defect prevention. The course is intended to support Quality Leaders at all levels of the organization in understanding how these tools and procecces work and the characteristics of successful deployment.

The AS13100 online Requirements Training is a self-paced course designed to help yur organization gain key knowledge about a common quality language, how to gain compliance to AS13100, and the business value and benefit of the standard.

In addition, AESQ also recommends their optional webinar series to help with understanding of deployment. See past webinars on the AESQ website and watch for future webinars.

RM13009 Compliance Assessment Checklist Available for Free Download

One of the first tools developed by AESQ to support the aero engine supply chain is Reference Manual RM13009 Compliance Assessment. This free resource provides a structure for companies to identify their current compliance to the new SAE AS13100™ Standard including a 3-Part Self-Assessment Checklist that can be used to document both compliance and any gaps that may need addressed. 

Prior to conducting the Self-Assessment, it is highly recommended that a company’s Quality Leaders follow the SAE AS13100™ Requirements Training Course (on-line/ 10 hours) and/or the AESQ Quality Foundations Course to ensure complete understanding of the AS13100 requirements.
