What is the difference between AS9100 and AS13100?

AS13100 includes requirements that are supplemental to those in AS9100. These supplemental requirements are based on requirements flowed down to the engine makers from the regulator, customer and industry that are not included in AS9100.

Is the intent to eventually replace AC7004 (Nadcap), ISO 9001 and SAE AS9100 or will this be a new standard that is added to the other standards that already exist? Will all aerospace companies recognize AS13100?

AS13100 replaces major parts of the Aero Engine Manufacturers unique supplier requirements by creating a single set of harmonised requirements acceptable to the AESQ members. They are in addition (supplemental) to ISO9001, AS9100 and Nadcap and do not replace them.

Does the accreditation change also (AS9100?)

This does not affect the current accreditation requirements. Supplier will still be required to be certified to ISO9001, AS9100 and/or NADCAP. AS13100 will be assessed through customer auditing as it is done today e.g. Rolls-Royce's SABRe audits will include AS13100 requirements.

Please can someone explain why this is a new document and not combined with AS9100 Rev E?

AS13100 contains harmonised requirements from RR, GE, P&W and Safran. These were created because they are not contained in AS9100. IAQG is responsible for AS9100, and they serve all aerospace organisations, space and defence. Aero Engines contains unique requirements that other suppliers may find unnecessary. As aero engine manufacturers, we are subject to more stringent customer, regulator and industry requirements that would not, therefore, fit into AS9100.

We can have all the three standards as one to avoid duplications. I mean AS9100, AS13100 & Customer Specific?

IAQG manages AS9100 for aerospace suppliers, space and defence. Aero Engine manufacturers are required to comply with a very stringent set of requirements by the customer, regulator and industry. The AESQ is trying to reduce the overall number of requirements by harmonizing its own requirements and reducing the number of custromer unique requirements. AESQ has more to do, but AS13100 has reduced the overall number of requirements by the OEM by over 50%.

Why is it not considered to integrate AS13100 with AS9100?

It would be too difficult because AS9100 needs to satisfy all aerospace suppliers, and AS13100 is focused on aero engine supply chains that are subject to more stringent regulatory and customer requirements.

Will AS13100 be certified similar to AS9100 or an addition to AS9100 and which organization will audit a site to AS13100?

There is no intent to have a certification audit to AS13100.

Recognizing that AS9100 rev E is due sometime soon, how are AESQ working with the AS9100 WG in IAQG to (hopefully) harmonize across all of the industry sectors?

AESQ holds regular meetings with IAQG Requirements leaders. Although, AESQ does not anticipate many of the AS13100 requirements being uploaded into the new revision as the AS9100 has to serve a broad spectrum of supplier types. And, the aero engine supply chain is seen as needing to be more demanding and prescriptive due to its product risk profile.

Presently requirements are AS9100, customer and NADCAP. Where does NADCAP fit in after compliance to AS13100?

Most OEMs require special process assessment to NADCAP. This is reflected in AS13100, it does not contradict or add to the existing requirements for NADCAP by the customer.
